Manly One Party

Yes, another party post. We've had a lot to celebrate lately.

We used to call D "little-old-man" so a "manly" themed birthday party seemed like a good idea for his first. Besides, how could I not make chocolate mustaches once I saw them?

If you are my Facebook friend you've already seen these, but I figured I'd post anyway. I got so many great ideas for this party on-line so I had to give back. This party was actually a month ago, but I've had computer issues.

Sharpies + latex balloons made for some cheap and theme appropriate decor.
Itty bitty moustache stamps were purchased from Skull and Crossbuns on Etsy.  (Used them on the cupcake picks and thank you notes.)  Mustache Lolly Candy Molds were found on Amazon.  (This is an affiliate link.)  Here's the recipe I used for the cupcakes.  Healthier than usual and they were a big hit with everyone.  I did top them with regular cream cheese frosting though.  I made D's shirt using a tutorial I found here.
And I didn't get a good picture of it, but I cut out mustache shapes from black construction paper and taped them to the mirrors in the house.  tee-hee

I think I'm generally a private person.  However, I do not mind talking about this topic.  In general, I think our culture does not handle it well... if at all.
I no longer have the bitterness and longing that I once did.  I remember how difficult it was to deal with such a personal and often unspoken loss.  Through the grief I have found a greater appreciation for my life and the little ones I was allowed to keep.  Things happen in this world that don't make sense, that hurt, that seem pointless...  The what-if's are always there, but my hope is in Christ.

Today my heart goes out to those who are still in the midst of mourning, those who are still waiting to complete their families, those who are still hurting...  I hope that you find healing and I pray that you find peace.

October 15 is Infant and Pregnancy Loss Awareness Day.  Tonight, all around the world, candles will be lit in remembrance.

mmm fall

I'm loving the cooler weather.  It gets my knitting mojo going.  Babies are good knitting inspiration too.  I finally finished and gifted these green scrappy pants I've been working on.  I love the way they came out!  Yes, they are a bit funky but that's my thing.  They won't fit for a few months so I had to make him a pumpkin hat too.  The hat will (hopefully) fit him now.

D needs a hat too. I orignally bookmarked the pumpkin hat for him, but I decided to do something that will be appropriate through the winter.  So I used the last of my bday money to buy this pattern:

I haven't completed a project with cables so this should be interesting!  I hope there is minimal swearing involved.  Am waffling on a yarn to choose.  I have some grey 100PureWool (super soft!) that might win out.
