I'm preggo again!
We are very excited at the possibility of adding to our family. W is going to be a fabulous big brother. I think he is going to be at a great age too. He'll be 3 by then and able to "help." I'm just shy of 3 years older than my brother and my DH and his brother are pretty much exactly the same spacing as these two will be. I think it's funny how people seem to stress about child spacing ages, but no matter what happens we adapt and find the good in our particular situation. W has been a very intense, high-energy kid and I'm grateful for the time I've had with just him. (And with any luck he'll be completely out of diapers by then too. Bonus!)
I wish I could say it's all joy and excitement, but I've been really sick this time around. It was bad enough with my son, but this has involved way more barfing and even less appetite. Throw in a couple colds and yucky sinus congestion and I've been out of commission. I have literally spent many days going from the bed to the couch. Not that I'm complaining, just stating the facts.
I had another miscarriage in the beginning of December that I didn't tell everyone about. So the two early losses last year have tainted that initial excitement as well. As anyone who has gone through a pregnancy loss will tell you, it's just not the same. You know the risks intimately and aren't naive about it anymore. I had some bleeding this time too and went to the ER to get checked out. Thankfully, we were able to see a reassuring flutter on the monitor at about 7 weeks. We have a heartbeat! One milestone down.
I have decided that I'm going to try my best to act like this is a normal pregnancy. To embrace the experience and enjoy it as much as I can. Still, it feels a little like I'm tempting fate to even make an announcement. I'm a couple weeks away from that 12 week milestone yet but the cat is out of the bag now.
So I'm going forward with hope. Sometime in September baby #2 will be making their arrival.
